What is the goal?

Instead of sending external links to students, you can centralize all videos in a single course activity so viewing happens directly inside Moodle.

Full workflow: from a new course to videos for students

Step 1 – Create a new course (if you do not have one yet)

  1. Log in to Moodle with appropriate permissions (lecturer/coordinator/administrator).
  2. Go to the relevant category and click Create a new course.
  3. Fill in basic details: full course name, short name, and start/end dates as needed.
  4. Save the course.
If the course already exists, you can skip to Step 2.

Step 2 – Build the course structure

  1. Enter the course and click Turn editing on.
  2. Create topics or weeks according to your teaching plan.
  3. Give each topic a clear name, for example: "Week 1 – Introduction", "Unit 2 – Practice".

Step 3 – Add general resources and activities

In each topic, click "Add an activity or resource" and add a STREAM activity in the appropriate place in the course structure.

Choose a clear location for the activity (by topic or week) so students can find the videos quickly.

Creating a STREAM activity in a course

  1. Enter the course and turn editing on.
  2. Click "Add an activity or resource".
  3. Select "STREAM" and click Add.
  4. Enter a name for the activity (for example: "Lesson recordings", "Unit 1 videos").
  5. You can add a short description for students (optional).

Assigning videos to the activity

There are two main ways to assign videos:

1) Automatic assignment (Collection Mode)

  1. If the option is configured at your institution, enable Video Recordings Collection Mode.
  2. Save the activity.
  3. The system will automatically pull relevant videos according to system settings.

Especially suitable for courses with many recordings that are updated regularly.

2) Manual assignment

  1. Within the activity settings, search for videos on the Stream server.
  2. Select the desired videos and add them to the playlist.
  3. Save the settings.

Suitable when you want full control over which videos are shown to students.

Ordering videos for teaching sequence

  1. Drag and drop to set the viewing order.
  2. Order by topic or date when possible.
  3. Save so students see the new order.

Important settings for lecturers

  • Availability to students: you can set an open date and a close date for the activity.
  • Audio (if available at your institution): can be enabled or disabled according to course policy.
  • Clear activity name: use a name that tells students what is inside.

Recommended ongoing workflow for lecturers

  1. Create one central STREAM activity per course.
  2. Update the playlist at the start of each teaching week.
  3. Keep video titles clear, for example: "Lesson 03 – Derivatives".
  4. Run a short preview via Save and display before publishing.
